The sculpting techniques in this facial draw on Kobido, a Japanese method whose name translates roughly to “the ancient way of beauty.” Its lineage is traditionally traced to 1472, when it was developed as a prestigious facial massage practice. Kobido uses fast, rhythmic, precise movements to stimulate circulation, tone facial muscles and encourage a lifted, glowing look — a genuinely time-tested approach to non-invasive facial rejuvenation.
Gua sha: draining and defining
We pair that with gua sha, a traditional East Asian technique that uses a smooth-edged tool to gently glide along the face, encouraging lymphatic drainage and helping to define the contours. Together, these hands-on methods do what no device can: they relax the person as much as they treat the skin.
