Botanicals & Supplements for Healthy Skin

What to put on your skin, what to put in your body, and what actually helps — the honest guide to protecting your glow between treatments.

How to use this page: browse the botanical library to understand the plants behind your products (including the eight flowers of our botanical key), then see which supplements genuinely support skin — and put it together with the daily lineup at the bottom.

The botanical library

Plants earned their place in skincare long before labs did — but not every extract is equal. These are the botanicals with real substance behind them, starting with the eight flowers our own treatment system is named for.

Lotus

Our Signature flower · balancing

The lotus flower is rich in flavonoid antioxidants and natural moisturizers. In skincare it helps balance oil and hydration at once — which is why it symbolizes our all-skin-type Signature Glow family.

Best for: combination skin, dullness, anyone starting a routine

Find it in: hydrating essences, balancing toners, sheet masks

Cherry Blossom

Our Radiance flower · softening

Blossom extracts (cherry and almond blossom) are gentle soothers loaded with antioxidants that support a soft, even, luminous look — the spirit of our Radiance & Hydration facials.

Best for: dry, tired or lackluster skin

Find it in: brightening lotions, hydrating serums, gentle creams

Calendula

Our Clarifying flower · calming

Calendula (marigold) is one of skincare's best-studied calming botanicals — its flavonoids and carotenoids soothe irritation and support the skin's recovery, making it a natural partner to acne care.

Best for: breakout-prone, reactive or freshly-extracted skin

Find it in: calming creams, spot balms, post-treatment soothers

Rose & Rosehip

Our Anti-Aging flower · renewing

Rose water calms and gently tones, while rosehip seed oil delivers natural vitamin A precursors and essential fatty acids that support smoother, firmer-looking skin over time.

Best for: mature skin, fine lines, dull tone

Find it in: facial oils, rich night creams, toning mists

Sunflower

Our Brightening flower · protective

Sunflower seed oil is high in vitamin E and linoleic acid — it strengthens the moisture barrier and adds antioxidant support, a daily ally for sun-stressed Florida skin.

Best for: sun-exposed, dry or barrier-compromised skin

Find it in: daily moisturizers, cleansing oils, barrier creams

Magnolia

Our Resurfacing flower · soothing

Magnolia bark extract contains magnolol and honokiol, calming antioxidant compounds that help settle visible redness — welcome support around resurfacing treatments.

Best for: skin that flushes easily; post-exfoliation care

Find it in: calming serums, redness-relief creams

Lavender

Our Wellness flower · restful

Lavender is skincare's great relaxer — its aroma supports the wind-down your skin repairs best in, and the extract lightly soothes. A little goes a long way on sensitive skin.

Best for: evening routines, stressed skin and stressed humans

Find it in: night creams, facial mists, bath & body oils

Jasmine

Our Waxing flower · comforting

Jasmine extract softens and conditions, and its gentle profile suits freshly waxed or delicate skin — which is why it stands for our Silk Waxing ritual.

Best for: post-wax care, dry patches, delicate areas

Find it in: body lotions, soothing oils, after-wax balms

Aloe Vera

The everyday soother

Aloe's gel is mostly water structured with polysaccharides that cool, hydrate and calm on contact — the first thing to reach for after sun or any irritation.

Best for: sunburn relief, post-treatment cooling, oily skin hydration

Find it in: gels, after-sun products, light moisturizers

Green Tea (EGCG)

The antioxidant workhorse

Green tea's EGCG is among the most-studied topical antioxidants — it helps neutralize the free radicals generated by UV and pollution, supporting your skin's daily defense.

Best for: daily antioxidant protection, oily and acne-prone skin

Find it in: antioxidant serums, moisturizers, eye creams

Centella Asiatica

The repair leaf (cica)

Centella — 'cica' on many labels — is prized for supporting the skin barrier and calming visible irritation; its compounds (madecassoside, asiaticoside) are staples of recovery skincare.

Best for: sensitive, stressed or freshly-treated skin

Find it in: cica creams, barrier repair serums, K-beauty formulas

Licorice Root

The gentle brightener

Licorice root extract (glabridin) helps visibly even skin tone and calm redness — one of the gentlest brightening botanicals, and a lovely partner to our Sun-Damage Brightening series.

Best for: uneven tone, post-blemish marks, sensitive brighteners

Find it in: brightening serums, dark-spot treatments

Chamomile & Bisabolol

The sensitivity specialist

Chamomile's key compound bisabolol is a classic skin-calmer that helps take the edge off redness and reactivity — gentle enough for nearly everyone.

Best for: sensitive and easily-irritated skin

Find it in: calming creams, baby-gentle formulas, post-treatment care

Jojoba

The skin-twin oil

Technically a liquid wax, jojoba closely resembles skin's own sebum — it moisturizes without clogging and helps other ingredients absorb comfortably.

Best for: all skin types, even oily; makeup removal

Find it in: facial oils, cleansing balms, moisturizers

Sea Buckthorn

The omega berry

These bright-orange berries are packed with rare omega-7, carotenoids and vitamins C and E — nourishing support for skin that feels depleted or weathered.

Best for: very dry, mature or weather-stressed skin

Find it in: facial oils, rich creams, recovery balms

Supplements that support your skin

Skin is an organ — it's built from what you eat. These are the nutrients with the strongest connection to skin health, described honestly: what they do, where to get them from food first, and where the hype ends.

Please read: we are licensed estheticians, not physicians, and this is general education — not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you're pregnant, nursing, managing a condition, or taking medication. Food sources beat pills whenever you have the choice.

Vitamin C

Collagen's co-worker

Your body needs vitamin C to build collagen, and as an antioxidant it supports skin's defense against everyday UV stress. Most people can reach good levels through diet alone.

Best for: citrus, strawberries, bell peppers, broccoli

Find it in: High doses can upset the stomach; more is not better.

Vitamin D

The Florida paradox

Even in sunny Florida, consistent SPF use (which we insist on!) means many people run low on vitamin D — a nutrient involved in skin cell growth and repair. Worth asking your doctor to test.

Best for: fatty fish, fortified dairy, egg yolks

Find it in: Dose should be guided by a blood test — ask your physician.

Vitamin E

The barrier guard

A fat-soluble antioxidant that lives in your skin's oil layer, vitamin E works alongside vitamin C to support the moisture barrier and defend lipids from oxidation.

Best for: sunflower seeds, almonds, avocado

Find it in: Food sources are preferred; high-dose supplements can interact with blood thinners.

Omega-3s

The calm-from-within fats

EPA and DHA from fish oil support the skin's lipid barrier and a calm, comfortable complexion — many people notice less dryness and reactivity with steady intake.

Best for: salmon, sardines, walnuts, chia and flax

Find it in: Choose tested brands; consult your doctor if on blood thinners.

Zinc

The blemish mineral

Zinc participates in healing and oil regulation, and low zinc is linked with more stubborn breakouts. Food-first is the safest route.

Best for: oysters, beef, pumpkin seeds, lentils

Find it in: Long-term high doses deplete copper — don't megadose.

Collagen Peptides

The popular one, honestly told

Studies suggest daily hydrolyzed collagen may modestly support skin elasticity and hydration over 8–12 weeks. It's a supportive extra — not a substitute for SPF, retinoids or professional care.

Best for: bone broth; powdered peptides in coffee or smoothies

Find it in: Results are gradual and modest; consistency matters more than brand hype.

Hyaluronic Acid (oral)

The inside-out hydrator

Small studies suggest oral HA may support skin moisture from within. Pair it with the topical kind — and with actually drinking water.

Best for: supplement form; bone broth contains precursors

Find it in: Generally well tolerated; evidence is still building.

Probiotics

The gut–skin axis

A balanced gut microbiome is increasingly linked to calmer, clearer skin. Fermented foods are the most natural way in.

Best for: yogurt, kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, miso

Find it in: Strain-specific effects vary; simple fermented foods are a great start.

Astaxanthin & Carotenoids

Nature's inner sunscreen (almost)

Carotenoids like astaxanthin, lycopene and beta-carotene accumulate in skin and add a small measure of internal photo-support. They never replace SPF — think of them as backup dancers.

Best for: salmon (astaxanthin), tomatoes (lycopene), carrots & sweet potato

Find it in: A supplement to sunscreen, never a substitute.

Polypodium Leucotomos

The sun-support fern

An extract of a tropical fern studied for supporting the skin's resilience to UV stress — sometimes suggested alongside brightening programs. Interesting science, still not a license to skip SPF.

Best for: supplement form only

Find it in: Discuss with your doctor, especially alongside sun-sensitive treatments.

Your day-to-day lineup

You don't need twelve products. You need a few of the right types, used consistently. This is the routine we recommend to nearly every client — your esthetician will personalize the specifics at your visit.

☀️ Morning — protect

  1. Gentle cleanser — wash the night off without stripping your barrier.
  2. Antioxidant serum — vitamin C or green-tea based, your daily shield-booster against UV and pollution stress.
  3. Moisturizer — with barrier-friendly ingredients like ceramides, jojoba or sunflower oil.
  4. Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ — the single most anti-aging product on Earth. Every day, rain or shine.

🌙 Evening — repair

  1. Cleanse properly — a double cleanse if you wore makeup or SPF (which is every day).
  2. Treat — your targeted step: a retinoid, a brightener like licorice, or a calming cica serum, as your esthetician recommends.
  3. Moisturize — richer at night; skin repairs while you sleep.
  4. Weekly extra — one gentle exfoliation per week keeps skin bright; your monthly facial does the deep work.

The Florida factor

Our sun is not a normal sun. Southwest Florida delivers near-tropical UV nearly all year — which is why sun damage and uneven tone are the concerns we treat most. Non-negotiables here: SPF 30+ every single morning, a hat for long outdoor stretches, antioxidants inside and out (vitamin C serum + a carotenoid-rich diet), and rinsing after salt water or heavy sweat. If sunspots have already arrived, that's exactly what our Sun-Damage Brightening Facial and Bright & Even Journey were built for.

Where home care meets the treatment room

Everything on this page is the "between visits" half of the equation. The other half — deep exfoliation, extractions, galvanic infusion, professional-grade actives — happens in the studio, where a licensed esthetician can safely go further than any home product. The two halves compound: clients who do both get results neither could deliver alone.

Find your match with Find Your Treatment, see what's inside every service in the Treatment Room, read your before & after care guides, and check the full price list — multi-visit packages save 20%.
